2023 Creative Writing Prize Winners Announced! The Creative Writing Prize asks secondary school students write a poem, short story, play or graphic novel which responds to an image from the Manar al-Athar Digital Archive. The competition is a collaboration between the Faculty of Classics at the University of Oxford, the Oxford Centre for Byzantine Research, and Manar al-Athar.
In 2023, more than 325 students participated. The winning entries can be read here

Creative Writing Competition 2021

First Prize: Weiyen Hannah Tan (Cherwell School, Oxford)
Title: “Sands of Time”, a poem inspired by an image of a tomb in Petra
Second Prize: Amn Zain-ul-Abidin (Lahore Grammar School)
Title: “A Believer’s Conundrum”, responding to images of the Aya Sofya Mosque in Trabzon
Third Prize: Jack Hitchcock (Derby Moor Academy)
Title: “Apollo at Cyrene”, on the temple of the god at Shahhat in Libya
